Wide Vs. Full

http://www.moviesbystarlight.com/widescreen/widescreen.htm

No, I don't think the bars cover the movie, but I do not like the black bars.
In full screen they crop the movie so that it fits the full screen.
About 30% of the screen is cut off when you watch a movie in full screen.

I have to say that I like full screen more, just because the black bars at the top and bottom irratate me.

Google Reader

http://cinema-pedia.com/index.php/news/harrelson-owen-wilson-rough-it-in-peru.html

It doesn't surprise me that Owen Wilson is okay out in the woods. He doesn't seem to be stuck up about where he sleeps. I'm not really surprised Cameron Diaz was out there either. She is really cool and one of the less stuck up preppy celebs. I'm glad they were visiting orphans.

This website has videos and pictures of the celebs, mainly Owen, in Peru.

Task 2

http://www.magazine-ads.com/COK1297.php

Coke is in the center and it drags you in. White, black, red, and green. The red, black, and white all are coke colors and there is the grass which is kinda calming. Extreme close up. It is in the center. Coke-Cola.

http://www.magazine-ads.com/PEP1361.php

A child and a dad carving a pumpkin. Orange and black gives you the Halloween feel. Close up and kinda medium. well the kid and the pumpkin are on the left and the dad si on the right. I don't get it but it is for pepsi. Pepsi isnt in this picture at all

Task 1

http://www.grenoble.iufm.fr/T3/Java/Didafin4/html/guide.html

If it is a new product they emphasize on the fact that it is new and less on the actual product.
If the product is well known then they just show it.
Sometimes they emphasize on the type/quality of the product rather than the actual product.
Sometimes the character is put in the middlle, stareing right at you.(Singleing you out)
Other times you can't see the character's face because the main focus is on the product.

Primary colors shouldnt be used as much as secondary colors.

A long shot is used so that the characters don't look cramped. You can see their whole bodies.
A medium shot is used when you can see from their waist and up.
A close up shows the shoulders and up on a character.
An extreme close up is used to zoom in on a part of a persons face to create suspense.

Top half of the page is the dominant zone.
Bottom half of the page is the foundation zone.
Left side is the zone of arrival.
Right side is the zone of departure.
Center of the page is the balance zone.

When scanning an ad a persons face scans in a z shape. (top right corner to top left corner to the bottom right corner to the bottom left corner. )

http://www.grenoble.iufm.fr/T3/Java/Didafin4/images/Cafe.jpg

I think its a donkey and cowboy on an airplane. I'm guessing it has to deal with donkeys and cowboys in columbia and then its an ad for columbian coffee on airplanes. I didn't really get it at first and the ad is kinda a long shot, but i guess if you interpert it right it will be fine.

Web Publishing

http://www.webstyleguide.com/type/index.html

Typography is a balance of letters on a page. They don't use HTML(h1, h2) because they make it too big and less subtle. They are narrow for psycological reasons. Times New Roman is most legible. Verdana was created for the computer screen. We take words in by the shape so having all caps is bad because its jst a big rectangle. Use italics for convention on lists and titles. Use bold for subheadings. Underline is used in typewriters where bold and italics arent available. They are used to optimize the font and text. It smooths the text.

Online Safety

http://www.techcorps.org/resources/internetsafety/getnet.htm

1. I will not give out personal information such as my address, telephone number, parents' work address/telephone number, or the name and location of my school without my parents' permission.

i.e. Giving out your information makes it easy for people to stalk you and cause harm to your family.

2. I will tell my parents or my teacher right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable.

i.e. Some people should be arrested for the things they say and telling a parent can help you stop preditors

3.I will never agree to get together with someone I "meet" online without first checking with my parents. If my parents agree to the meeting, I will be sure that it is in a public place and bring my mother or father along.

i.e. Meeting somone online can be dangerous because people can lie about things.

4. I will never send a person my picture or anything else without first checking with my parents.

i.e. sending people you don't know pics of you makes it easier for them to recognize you if they want to stalk.

5. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents right away so that they can contact the service provider.

i.e. information that makes me feel uncomfortable is probably wrong.

6. I will talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for going online. We will decide upon the time of day that I can be online, the length of time I can be online, and appropriate areas for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules without their permission.

i.e. Following parents' rules makes it so u can get more opportunities and maybe someday get those restrictions removed

7. I will not give out my Internet password to anyone (even my best friends) other than my parents.

i.e. Giving your passwords out makes it so people can hack you and get your information. Even your bff's because your bff's might not be your bff's tomarrow

8. I will be a good online citizen and not do anything that hurts other people or is against the law.

i.e. Being good online makes it so you can still use the internet.

Online Communication

http://www.inc.com/articles/2004/02/webwriting.html

People don't read every word. We scan. The 3 s's are scannable, short, and segmented. Hard to read italics, mixing too many fonts, and using underlines for things other than links. Having a goal, writing clearly, concisely, and consistently, with details and examples, and no errors. i think details and examples are most important and no errors.

http://www.useit.com/alertbox/teenagers.html

Teenagers apparently need more images and easier words to be able to understand what they are reading. Teen's are good at mp3 downloads, chats, IM, e-mail, etc. People think teens are technowizards but apparently thats not the truth. Teenagers don't like to read especially not on the web. That is true we scan. There are many activities that teens can do where they don't have to read a lot.

MLA Citation: Bedford Public Schools. October 30,2007. Bedford Public Schools Department of Communications. November 1, 2007

Design

I think that the navigability is good. They have all the links on the left side of the screen and you can go from site to site easily.

You can leave comments and contact the editor. So, yes I do think that it is good interactivity.

Some of the pages are kind of long. Over all the pages are a reasonable amount of information.

The links are good so that you can figure out what you need. You can go to the different pages to get what you need.

The page is color coordinated. The school colors are I think black, red, and white so they coordinate with the school colors too.

The backgrounds and font colors don't clash. The font is red, blue, or black and the background is white.

Content

The title is proper. It is the right size and color and says exactly what you are looking at.

There are additional links to things such as the sports teams and the school pages. There are also links to things such as the weather and more.

The information is useful. You can find out dates they have off and more.

A lot fo the information that can be found on the homepage would make you want to go back. Things like the calander are thinks that make you want to go back.

I think that the haslett page is better than the Bedford one. Haslett's page has more links.

Technical Elements

All the links work. Some of the links are better than the others

Graphics are on the pages. They upload quickly and are cool to look at.

I am not exactly sure. All the graphics and text came up.

I am not exactly sure. All the graphics and text came up.

The links open up quickly. Yes you can see useful information within 30 seconds.

Credibility

No names are listed. Telephone numbers and fax numbers are posted.

The pages have been updated recently. They have the updated date at the top of the pages.

Resource links are included. They help you find what you need quickly.

I don't think they say the host schools. I know they have them though.

Total Possible Points = 100 Total= I would give them a 90

A search engine works by taking your terms and matching it will the best sites responding to it. Search engines are full profit institutions, which that is a bad thing because they are selling things around it and it isnt public.Double click is an advertising network, NOT A SEARCH ENGINE. Linked in is a professional network where you can talk to people, look for jobs, and ask questions and recieve answers.

Plagerism

http://cfbstaff.cfbisd.edu/boltef/plagiarism_defined.htm

I personally think plagerism happens a lot in our school. Mainly because people are lazy and go to a website copy information and don't feel like putting it in their own words. I think teachers can stop plagerism by one making it so you don't have to type the project and two by making the projects personal not research. I think making projects yours shows personality. I mean yes other people may have good ideas but your's are just as good, just maybe not wrote out well.

Safety Online

http://stankoart.pbwiki.com/f/safetypledge.doc

the top 5 safety tips listed that i agree with strongly are not sending pics without permission... cuz its rude to put pics of ppl on the internet especially if possibly they dont want their pics on the internet, not participating in breaking the law or school policy on the internet, i won't plagerize because i know it is wrong, i wont use bad language because i usually only say bad words i dont usually type them, and finally i would never agree to meet someone i met on the internet... at least not alone....

yes i have had a few bad incidents on the internet but i expect it since the internet is full of stupid ppl.

in general i agree with the tips but i dk some of the tips are a little outrageous i mean as long as we are safe it should be fine....

Wiki Project

Wiki is a group thing that can be edited and used to search things up. A website is sometimes used to look things up but sometimes all you can do is look at information. I think it will be interesting to be able to get in a group and make a web database together. You can use a wiki with ur friends to keep al ur favorite websites and information about those websites together.

Magic Tricks

http://wwwimage.cbs.com/primetime/ghost_whisperer/swf/crystal_ball.swf
The first time I did it, it didn't even work. The sceond time I did it, it did work. I have been taught before how it works, but I don't remember how it does. I think that people usually think of one number the first time and a certain number the next time.

http://www.ecardtricks.com/mr1.htm
Again, I think that people most of the time picks the same card. They probably did the trick many times over and did like a poll to see how many people picked each card so they know what card most people will pick.
